Yasmin Ellis

Born and raised in Melbourne, Yasmin had a keen interest in art and design at a very young age. She spent 5 years in the UK studying fine art, exhibiting her paintings and sculptures in local galleries.

Coming back to Melbourne in early 2008 she started experimenting with using different materials to create handmade jewellery. Now mainly focusing on constructing jewellery out of the humble tailors' tape measure, she creates whimsical, colourful pieces inspired by the rolls and shapes she finds she can create using this material. Armed with her grandfather's old typewriter she makes each backing card separately, using children's nursery rhymes that relate in some way to the piece it will carry.
